A CAT adoption centre welcomed Richard Benyon MP to discuss animal welfare following controversial debates in Parliament.

The Newbury politician was given a behind-the-scenes tour of Cats Protection Adoption Centre after its appeal to reduce harm and neglect.

Issues including compulsory microchipping and licensing of air guns have been raised by the charity in their 2022 Agenda for Cars.

Madison Rogers, from Cats Protection, said: “There are many ways politicians can help cats and it was great to see Richard’s enthusiasm for our 2022 Agenda for Cats.

"It is only with the support of Richard and his fellow MPs that we will be able to improve the welfare of cats.”

A number of politicians came under fire during a recent Commons vote, including Mr Benyon, who denied claims the Government did not care about animals.

He added: “It was good to see such a well-run Cats Protection Adoption Centre based in West Berkshire and hear about the wider political agenda for cat welfare.

"Much of Cats Protection’s 2022 Agenda for Cats will be reflected in the new Animal Welfare Bill.”
