A DRIVER was rushed to hospital after his car was sent flying across a busy stretch of motorway.

The silver Ford Fiesta was travelling on the eastbound stretch of the M4 near Newbury at around 10pm on Saturday, July 22.

The vehicle careered across the carriageway on the approach to junction 13 and struck a barrier and when the car stopped, it was facing the opposite direction.

A 26-year-old man from Bournemouth was arrested on Sunday, July 23, on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously and on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink.

He has been released under investigation.

A man was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital after sustaining minor injuries, but has since been discharged, while a female passenger did not require treatment for he injuries.

Officers investigating the incident would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicle travelling prior to the collision.
