HOLLYWOOD star George Clooney is backing a community campaign to save Dunsden Village Hall.

The actor, who lives in Sonning Eye, has pledged £1,000 to help keep the Victorian hall open.

The £40,000 project is being supported through an auction at Loddon Brewery on Saturday, June 10, with luxury items including a football signed by Pele and theatre tickets.

Bidding is already open online and will continue until the auction closes.

Richard Ennis, an art teacher from Reading Blue Coat School, has donated a painting of Marlow Lock, which he completed before he was asked to produce a portrait of Theresa May as a gift for her 60th birthday.

There is also a Reading FC shirt signed by the 2016/17 team, complete with a certificate signed by Sir John Madejski.

The renovation of the village hall will include the widening of the main hall, a new foyer, unisex toilets and facilities for business meetings, weddings and parties.

Dunsden Village Hall is currently used by community groups, but it is thought the revamp will increase the capacity from 60 to 100 people with a new terrace.
