A MAN is believed to be in a critical condition after being attacked in the early hours of Monday.
The 49-year-old victim was assaulted near John Balliol Court at the junction of Denmark Road and London Road between 2am and 4am.
He received serious head injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains.
No description of the offenders is currently available at this time.
Detective Constable Lucie Singh, from Reading Force CID, said: “This was a concerning incident in the community and we have now launched a thorough investigation.
"As part of the investigation, we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have any information in relation to this to contact police immediately.”
Investigating officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.
