FOLLOWING a two-year hiatus, one of the biggest events in Caversham's diary returns this month.

The Caversham Arts Trail, which first started in 2009, will feature 37 artists across 17 venues throughout Caversham and Emmer Green over two weekends.

Visitors will have the chance to make their way around the trail, meeting the artists and possibly buying some truly unique pieces.

Unlike many other arts trails, the Caversham Trail is special in that all the venues are in the artists’ homes and gardens, which will be open to the public free of charge. Artists will also be giving demonstrations and talks about their work, and visitors can even have a go at some new techniques.

Refreshments including home-made cakes will be on offer at some of the venues throughout the trail.

Publicity officer Liz Real, who will be displaying her work at venue , said: "There will be a huge variety of work on display to suit all tastes and pockets: ceramics, painting, collage, stained glass, découpage, woven textiles, printmaking, jewellery, sculpture and so on.

"Many of the artists are familiar faces but there are also several new artists including a book binder, furniture maker, The School of Jewellery and Craft and local garden designer, Florence Gardening.

"There will also be a special sale of the work of the late Jacqueline Currell, who was a printmaker and sadly died of Motor Neurone Disease in 2017. All proceeds of her work will be donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association."

The trail will also be collecting donation for Reading homelessness charity Launchpad, and the Royal Berkshire Hospital Charity.

The Caversham Arts Trail takes place on May 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20, between 11am and 5pm. For more details on this year's Caversham Arts Trail, visit www.cavershamartstrail.co.uk.
