Parents and residents have voiced their opinions on schools closing during the heatwave.
Many schools in Reading and across the south east have amended their school days to finish earlier or closed altogether following the red weather alert issued by the Met Office.
The alert previously covered Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25, June but was recently extended to Friday June 26.
Schools across Reading have adapted by finishing at earlier times such as 1:30pm or noon, switching to online learning, or closing completely.
Reading community have voiced their opinions to the Reading Chronicle via social media.
Many were divided on whether this was a necessary measure.
Some were in favour of schools closing, with one resident saying: "Give schools a break, they all have different facilities/classrooms/ ability to keep people cool. They need to be able to make decisions based on their circumstances."
Another said: "Until you have been in a school that was built to retain heat you don't need to have an opinion. Your children will not learn in that heat, they are emotional, hot, irritable and tired."

Some voiced their concern for the well being of those working and studying, saying: "Children and staff well being should be the only consideration.
"Children won't learn in a classroom while they are melting. It doesn't happen that often, parents and employers should be flexible and understanding."
Others however spoke of the effect this has had on parents, particularly those who had to find childcare.
One person said: "Pain in the neck for working parents to sort childcare at short notice!"
Another said:" They should go in regardless, they are going to have to work in it one day and frankly that will be harder."
Others shared stories of their own childhood with one person asking: "How come when I was kid we just got on with it and lived to tell the tale but now a couple of days of hot weather and they shut the schools! The world has gone soft."

Some raised concerns about whether the shorter days were better, with one parent saying: "My kids school is doing shorter lessons and a lunchtime finish.
"Personally, I don't see the point, my kids both said because the lessons are short they haven't learnt/done anything."
The red weather warning was announced earlier this week by the Met Office.
The warning stressed that there could be a risk to life, and that people should expect population wide health affects.
