Local elections in Reading are taking place for the first time in two years.
This could be one of the most competitive elections for Reading Borough Council in years as well, as the ruling Labour Party is defending 10 seats.
It is the first election in Reading since the Labour government was elected in July 2024.

Currently, the council is made up of 32 Labour councillors, and eight Green Party members, three each for the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, councillor Clarence Mitchell (Reform UK, Emmer Green) and cllr Sarah Hacker (Independent, Battle).

New faces are guaranteed as councillors Hacker, Jo Lovelock (Labour, Norcot), Deborah Edwards (Labour, Southcote) and Sam Juthani (Labour, Caversham Heights) have all stood down.
Cllr Hacker's retirement from council life also guarantees political change as well.
While she was elected as a Labour councillor at the all-out elections in 2022, she was suspended from the party in September 2023.
In-person voting takes place from 7am to 10pm at your polling station on Thursday, May 7.
