A BUSINESS which was devastated by a fire that caused damage to "the entire shop" is set to reopen in a new location.

Cmart Oriental Foods on Friar Street was forced to close on Friday, May 26, 2023, after a fire ripped through the building.

A total of 50 firefighters, 10 fire engines, one aerial compliance and one command vehicle were on hand to tackle the blaze - which took emergency services more than 24 hours to put out and make the area safe.

In a statement on its website following the fire, Cmart said it had experienced "extensive damage" as a result of the "devastating fire", making the shop "inaccessible".

At the time it was believed the repair process would take weeks or months, however now 10 months on, the shop remains closed.

During this time Cmart opened a store in Lower Earley in November, but owners confirmed they were "actively seeking a new site in the town centre".

Now Cmart has confirmed it will be moving into Broad Street Mall.

Cmart will be taking over the former Vintage Noir unit, opposite Poundland and Holland and Barret.

A spokesperson added: "An agreement has been reached and the necessary repair works will commence soon.

"The opening date will be confirmed at a later date.

"Cmart will continue to supply oriental foods as usual and plans to expand its product range in the spacious new shop unit.

"We appreciate everyone's patience and support."

Cmart has confirmed it will continue to trade in Lower Earley.
