The heartbroken mother of a man who was stabbed in a nightclub attack earlier this month has been handed an outrageous hospital bill for his treatment.

Tharel Thompson, 28, was stabbed in the head on the dancefloor of the Walkabout club on February 11.

Having been rushed to hospital, the Barbados national who was on holiday at the time, has reportedly been refused free NHS treatment.

Mr Thompson's mother, Yvonne Thompson, rushed to his bedside following the incident, where she was initially told his hospital fees would cost £11,000.

Since being in hospital, Mr Thompson has undergone two major surgeries and is currently in a medically induced coma.

A GoFundMe has been set up to cover the costs of his treatment and help his family pay for accommodation.

In an update shared by Mrs Thompson on February 25, she said: "I want to thank you all for the messages, prayers and donations. I want to take the opportunity to give an update.

"Tharel was able to have the amount of medication he was receiving reduced, his brain pressure is at a safe number. He is in critical condition in an induced coma."

However, she added: "This week I received a letter from the NHS with an updated invoice.

"The bill now stands at £150,000 and continues to increase daily.

"In light of this, we will be editing the GoFundMe for assistance to cover his ongoing medical expenses."

The GoFundMe, which has so far raised £21,974 has now got a new goal of £200,000 in a bid to cover the costs.

Mrs Thompson added: "I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all for everything you have done for my family to date. Thank you for your continued support.

"Any amount is welcome, nothing is too small."
