AN EVENING of comedy, drag and poetry is promised at one town centre venue this weekend.

Devise & Conquer: Scratch Night and Cabaret is set to take audiences by storm at The Cocktail Club on Gun Street on Sunday night.

The event kicks off at 7pm and will hear from a number of 'powerful performances' from emerging local artists who are 'breaking boundaries' with their crafts, according to organisers.

Information about the event reads: "Lockdown Projections is back in Reading for another amazing night of brand new, powerful performances; platforming emerging artists who are breaking boundaries within their craft.

"With an array of performances from emerging female talent across the country, we aim to give artists a space to build and develop new work while also giving audiences a great night of unique and exciting entertainment."

The line up includes Rachel Heritage, Saffron Woolven, Charlotte McSweeney, Rosie Carson, Alice Flynn as 'Tony Baloney' and many more to come.

The organiser said: "With 5 star reviews for our Cabarets in Reading, we're excited to come back for a sell out show - so book your tickets quick!"

Lockdown Projections runs not for profit theatre events with active outreach casting for creatives.

Cabarets support ongoing fundraising efforts by the company to fund and support our work, as well as providing a safe space for our members and friends to experiment.

The organiser added: "In supporting Lockdown Projections, you support us in our mission to create more socioeconomically accessible spaces for working class actors and theatre makers."

In a note to those hoping to come along on the night, organisers said there is no step access to the ground floor bar, it is wheelchair accessible.

The evening is hosted by Lockdown Projects, a theatre company based in Reading.

The company says its aim is to "bring Professional Theatre to the masses, without making in inaccessible and unachievable".

They say: "We work together as a company to take fresh ideas and put the stage in front of audiences, rather than expecting them to find us. With a postmodern style and a building-stories-from-scratch approach, we hope you love what we have for you."
