EIGHT men have been arrested as part of a murder probe following the death of a cyclist near the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Thames Valley Police launched a murder investigation after a man was struck down by a motorist and reportedly attacked before the driver fled the scene.

The incident took place on Wednesday, February 14, on Addington Road, at the junction of Cadugan Place.

After being rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, 36-year-old cyclist Vignesh Raman, was sadly pronounced dead.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin, of the Major Crime Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of Mr Raman, who are being supported by specially trained officers.”

Following the incident, a 24-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday, February 19. Seven other suspects, aged 20, 21, 24, 27, 31, 41 and 48, all from Reading, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All suspects remain in police custody.
