Well-wishers have left messages of support to the victim of a brutal stabbing that occurred in Reading nightclub.

The incident was reported to police at around 2 am on Sunday, February 11 at the Walkabout bar in Reading Town Centre.

It has since been reported that the victim was a Barbados national called Tharel Thompson who was on holiday in the UK visiting with family in Reading.

Following the launch of a Go Fund Me, to help pay for Tharel’s medical bills, people left messages of support alongside donations for the victim and his family.

Supporter Veronica Brown said: “I read the story and it touched my heart, the family is from the same island as mine, I wish Tharel a speedy recovery, keep praying, god is good. Please keep us updated, such a shame for this unfortunate act while the young man was out having fun with his friends.”

Another supporter of the GoFundMe appeal described the situation in Reading as ‘gut-wrenching’ and wished the victim a speedy recovery.

A well-wisher who donated £300 to the family said that he was horrified by the attack.

Following an announcement that the GoFundMe had raised £11,000, the Chronicle readers also took to Facebook with words of support.

Michelle Sullivan said: “Wishing him well. This is awful. Bad enough getting stabbed let alone on your holidays but to incur bills for being a victim of violent crime feels so morally wrong.

“I’m so sorry this has happened, my thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family.”

Another Reading reader said: “What a horrible thing to happen to him. This unfortunately reinforces the need for travel insurance. Hope he makes a full recovery.”

Many people have sent love to his family who are with him at this tragic time.

After being launched on Friday (16/2) by Tharel’s mother, the GoFundMe has already raised over £15,000.

As well as medical bill’s this will also cover hotel costs for Tharel’s Mum as she travels to the UK to be with her son - who remains in critical condition.

So far, 491 donations have been left with one particular anonymous individual donating £1,000.

So far it has been reported that a 23-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and another man has been arrested.

Walkabout bar in Reading has been closed temporarily as Thames Valley Police continue their investigations.
