A cyclist has died following a suspected hit-and-run near Royal Berkshire Hospital. 

A man was struck down by a motorist and reportedly attacked by the driver who fled the scene, according to police. 

The incident occurred at around 11:50pm on Wednesday, February 14 on Addington Road at the junction of Cadugan Place.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where the cyclist, a man in his thirties, was sadly pronounced dead.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin of the Major Crime Unit said: “We have launched a murder investigation following this incident. Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who has died at this tragic time.”

The next of kin are currently being supported by specially trained officers at Thames Valley Police.

An appeal has been released asking those who may have information about what happened to come forward.

The force said:  “If you witnessed the incident, have information about what happened, or may have CCTV or dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation, please call 101 or make a report via the Thames Valley Police website, quoting reference 43240072677.

“Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online.”

An increased number of officers will be patrolling the area over the next few days as investigations take place.
