Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day, is upon us – the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday.
That means many Reading residents will be whipping up sweet treats at home or heading out for a special dessert.

Although this brand-new pancake café can’t be spotted on TripAdvisor yet, it isn’t because of its lack of popularity.
Fluffy Fluffy in Reading is one of the first branches of its kind in the UK, offering specialty souffle pancakes originating from Japan.
The two-story pancake café would be the perfect drop-by for that oh-so-delicious pancake that comes with an array of sweet toppings.
2. Bill’s, Reading
Bill’s is a Contemporary European chain dishing up separate breakfast, afternoon tea, lunch and dinner menus.
Its fluffy pancakes come with a range of toppings including sweet treats or a more healthy fruit compote option.
The month-watering treat is a favourite on the breakfast menu with many people choosing them over a traditional fry or eggs benedicts.
One Google reviewer said: “Great English breakfast and pancakes! Highly recommend”.
3. Café YOLK, located on Erleigh Road
Cafe YOLK is an independent cafe popular among locals for its delicious breakfasts, lunches, and coffees.
Their GIANT servings of pancakes are famed among customers, as well as their breakfasts and friendly customer service.
A Google reviewer said: "Had an amazing breakfast! Didn’t have to wait for a seat. Staff was friendly, didn’t have to wait long for our food. Ordered two Canadian breakfasts. Giant portions, not greasy, amazing pancakes. Already planning on coming back!"
4. Richfields Deli & Grill, Caversham Road
Richfields Deli & Grill is a Caversham-based independent deli popular for its breakfast, brunches, and toastees.
One Google reviewer spoke about their pancakes saying that they were a 'class above the rest'.
"I am fussy about food and this was our first time there ever and their breakfast was truly amazing. I make great pancakes but theirs was a class above.
"Before lockdown, this was one of my fav places to go and eat. The pancakes are delicious and the toast are so filling!"
