The following cases were heard at Reading or Slough Magistrates’ Courts.

NOVEMBER ‘23

TIMOTHY ING-SIMMONS, 62, of St Johns Road, Reading, admitted observing a person doing a private act for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification without consent in November 2021. Given a community order to comply with supervision requirements and to undertake 100 hours of unpaid work. Also ordered to pay £1,000 compensation. Must also pay £85 court costs.

SUJAAN KINGSLEY, 26, of Caversham Road, Reading, convicted of assault by beating on January 18, 2023 in Reading. Given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay £350 court costs and £26 victim surcharge.

SONNER TODD, 50, of no fixed abode, convicted of common assault in Reading on September 18, 2023. Sentenced to 10 weeks in prison due to severity of the offence and previous record for ‘heavily convicted’ defendant.

ELIJAH KNIGHT, 20, of Downshire Way, Bracknell, convicted of making 20 indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child between March 15, 2019, and July 7, 2022, in Bracknell. Given a community order to comply with rehabilitation activity and must be deprived of laptop and USB. Also ordered to pay £85 court costs and £114 victim surcharge.

BRADLEY KING, 24, of Queens Way, Kintbury, convicted of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour with the intent to cause fear of unlawful violence in Kintbury on June 11, 2023.Handed a community order to comply with supervision requirements including alcohol treatment. Fined £100. Must also pay £85 court costs and £114 victim surcharge.

STEVEN EATON, 35, of Sawyers Close, Windsor, convicted of assault by beating in March 2023, stalking involving fear of violence between July 2023 and August 2023. Sentenced to 20 weeks in prison suspended by 24 months, and made subject to a restraining order prohibiting defendant from a specified address in Berkshire. Also ordered to pay £85 court costs.

KELVIN MEDFORD, 53, of Montague Street, Caversham, convicted of drug driving in Forbury Road, Reading, on May 10, 2023. Found with cannabis in his system. Disqualified from driving for 12 months. Fined £80. Also ordered to pay £85 court costs and £32 victim surcharge.

PAUL FEE, 42, of Toutley Road, Wokingham, convicted of stealing cleaning products worth £49.95 from Lidl in Molly Millars Lane in Wokingham on October 17, 2023. Given a conditional discharge for 12 months. Must also pay £26 victim surcharge.

DECEMBER ‘23

HILAL SAMI, 33, of Fennel Close, Ascot, convicted of drug-driving in Southampton Street, Reading, on December 11, 2022. Found to have cocaine in their system. Also convicted of driving while disqualified and driving without the correct insurance on the same occasion.Sentenced to 10 weeks in prison due to the severity of offence and defendant ‘has a flagrant disregard for court orders’. Disqualified from driving for 42 months.

CHRISTOPHER PRICE, 51, of Boyn Valley Road, Maidenhead, convicted of drug driving on Finchampstead Road in Wokingham on January 28, 2023. Found to have cannabis in their system. Fined £250. Disqualified from driving for 12 months. Also ordered to pay £620 court costs and £100 victim surcharge.

GEMMA CANNON, 37, of Fair Isle Way, Reading, convicted of two counts of assault by beating in Reading on June 24, 2023. Given a conditional discharge for 24 months. Must pay £40 compensation. Also ordered to pay £200 court costs.

CRAIG BLISSETT, 47, Savernake Close, Reading, convicted of breaching a non-molestation order by sending a message that they were prohibited from sending in June 2023. Sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for 18 months and made subject to rehabilitation activity. Must also undertake 40 hours of unpaid work requirements. Also ordered to pay £85 court costs and £154 victim surcharge.

ADEEL CHOUDHRY, 30, of Glentworth Place, Slough, convicted of failing to provide a specimen for analysis as a vehicle driver in Maidenhead on July 9, 2022. Fined £692. Ordered to pay £720 court costs and £69 victim surcharge. Disqualified from driving for 20 months.

FINTAN BURKE, 34, of Newtown Road, Newbury, convicted of three counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker at the Royal Berkshire Hospital on August 8, 2023. Also convicted of racial or religiously aggravated harassment after using threatening or abusive words of behaviour to cause distress at the hospital on the same occasion. Given a community order to comply with rehabilitation activity. Fined £100. Ordered to pay £114 victim surcharge.

ROY ELSTON, 38, of South Lynn Crescent, Bracknell, convicted of assault by beating in Bracknell on August 10, 2022. Fined £180. Also ordered to pay £310 court costs and £72 victim surcharge.

ALEX OFORI, 42, of Christchurch Road, Reading, convicted of using a vehicle in Castle Street, Reading, without the correct insurance on June 29, 2023. Also convicted of driving while disqualified in Castle Street on the same occasion. Given a community order to comply with rehabilitation activity and must undertake 170 hours of unpaid work. Must pay £85 court costs.

A fundamental principle of justice is that it must be seen to be done. Open justice is acclaimed on a number of grounds: as a safeguard against judicial error, to assist the deterrent function of criminal trials and to permit the revelation of matters of interest.
