Home of the great British Sunday roast, heading to Toby Carvery might be in the diary for many of us over the Christmas holidays.

There are currently six Toby Carvery's across Berkshire, located in Slough, Maidenhead, Old Windsor, Lower Earley, Reading and Newbury.

But how do they rate when facing off against each other?

All six have the top "very good" five out of five hygiene rating.

However, according to TripAdvisor, people have experienced a different service and quality across the Berkshire branches.

The Toby Carvery in Old Windsor has been rated the worst of the six, receiving an average 3/5 rating. 

While many had a pleasant experience with "good food" with "fantastic service", others have complained about tightly packed tables and favourite items at the carvery, including Yorkshire puddings, running out.

The Reading, Maidenhead, Newbury and Slough Toby Carvery branches have all averaged a 3.5/5 rating.

The Reading branch has been commended for its "amazing Christmas breakfast", "reasonable prices" and "good service" - offering a lazy roast for those not wishing to cook.

One reviewer has commended the new management of the Caversham Bridge based Toby Carvery, saying: "Came in on a whim for breakfast as I'd heard on the grapevine that Caversham Bridge is under new management.

"Service was exceptional. Food was delightful."

Over in Maidenhead, people have commented on the "great chef" however some have recently had issues with bookings.

Newbury's Toby Carvery has been described as one of the best by a reviewer, but many have said the interior is outdated.

Meanwhile, Slough's Langley branch is a favourite among many, with waitress Sharon getting many positive mentions from reviewers.

Taking the crown of the best Toby Carvery in Berkshire according to TripAdvisor is the Lower Earley branch - scoring an average review score of 4/5.

A reviewer wrote: "Good food at reasonable prices. Plenty of choice for vegetarians. Good choice of meats too and a great selection of vegetables. The service was excellent too. Will be back."
