Police have warned football fans that their powers will be ramped up surrounding anti-social behaviour in the run-up to the Thames Valley Derby.

The match between Reading and Oxford will take place tonight (12/12) at Reading Football Club.

Two Section 35 dispersal orders will be put in place from 12 pm today (12/12) until 3 am tomorrow morning (13/12).

This gives the police and designated PCSOs increased powers to deal with individuals over the age of 10 engaging in anti-social behaviour or crime.

The order gives police the power to disperse groups of people when they believe an incident is likely to occur, as well as when it is occurring.

Superintendent Lee Barnham, Silver Operational Commander for the Reading FC game, said: “These dispersal orders are in place solely as a preventative measure for any anti-social behaviour or disorder which takes place surrounding the game.

“By activating these plans, officers have more options at their disposal to move people out of the area to reduce the likelihood of crime and disorder or people being caused harassment, alarm or distress.

“We want to ensure that fans coming to enjoy the game, residents and the wider public feel safe when visiting the town. Officers will be out and about throughout the day and on hand to answer any questions or concerns you may have – feel free to stop them for a chat.”
