HUNDREDS of people are facing the prospect of waking up on Christmas morning in hospital - so the Royal Berks gift tree appeal is back to spread some festive cheer.

The Christmas gift appeal hopes to ensure that more than 900 patients will have a present to open on on the big day, despite being in hospital.

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is calling on the public to dig deep and help make it happen by either dropping off gift donations or contributing to the efforts via the Amazon wishlist.

Popular gift donations include toiletries, jewellery, chocolate, biscuits, scarves, puzzles, games, books, and craft sets.

Donations can be dropped off at the hospital’s main reception, at libraries across, Reading central, lower Earley, Caversham, Woodley, Pangbourne or Theale, or the Link cafe in School Road, Tilehurst.

If you are unable to drop off a donation, gifts can be ordered via the appeal’s Amazon Wishlist here.

Presents should be unwrapped before a team of dedicated volunteers will wrap and distribute the presents across the hospital and other Berkshire sites under the Trust for Christmas Day.

More than 900 presents were handed out to patients last year to spread some festive feeling, and the Trust hopes to collect even more this season with a target of 1,000 presents.
