POLICE are urging a woman who was racially abused and strangled on a bus to come forward.

The incident occurred at about 6pm on Friday (November 17) on the number 16 bus, travelling on Overdown Road towards Purley.

An offender was racially abusive to the victim, a woman in her twenties or thirties, before putting his hands around her neck and attempting to strangle her.

When officers arrived, the victim had got off the bus and they have been unable to trace her.

Investigating officer, PC Emily Lewis said: “I’m appealing to anybody who believes that they witnessed this incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.

“I am also appealing to the victim to come forward as we have been unable to track them down so far."
