A Newbury couple was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife in a public place.

The incident occurred at around 12:15 am on October 21 in Wharf car park on Wharf Street when a member of the public alerted officers to the man and a woman.

After seizing a knife found in the car park, the police detained and searched the 37-year-old man and 46-year-old woman from Newbury.

PC Jake Thain, based at Newbury police station, said: “I am appealing for the member of the public who alerted our officers to this weapons offense to please come forward as he left before officers could take his details.”

They have both been released on police bail until January 21 2024.
