TWO teenage boys charged with attempted murder have prepared their defence statements ahead of trial.

The boys, both aged 16 from Reading, appeared in Reading Crown Court on Monday (November 13) for a further case management hearing.

It is alleged they were involved in an incident on Wednesday, August 9 in Hemdean Road, Caversham.

A young boy was hospitalised with two stab wounds in the early hours of the morning.

Thames Valley Police arrested the two teenagers on suspicion of attempted murder and later charged them. 

The court heard this week, where the defendants appeared via video link, that the defence statements have been prepared with at least one expected to be a case of self-defence.

A CCTV compilation is also being prepared for the trial along with a storyboard timeline and references to relevant phone activity during the time of the incident. 

Another update to the trial will be heard in the same court on December 14.

The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are due to stand trial on Monday, January 15.

In the meantime, they remain in custody with the custody time limit due to expire on February 9 next year.
