1. Dog rescues in Berkshire cannot rehome their animals

Reading Chronicle:

Dog owners in Berkshire can no longer afford their pets because of the cost-of-living crisis, local charities have said.

The Chronicle has been conducting research into the current pressure on dog kennels and has found that many dog rescues in Berkshire are struggling.

Connie Cuff, 85, the owner of Pine Ridge Sanctuary, Ascot told The Chronicle how difficult it is to rehome dogs at the moment due to the rising cost of vet bills.

2. London Road could lose one lane in Reading council plans

Reading Chronicle:

One of the busiest roads in Reading could go down from three traffic lanes to two according to a plan drawn up by the council.

London Road can regularly be seen full of cars during the morning and evening rush hours as drivers get to and from work.

It serves as a key route from East Reading into the town centre. It currently has three lanes which are open to cars and motor vehicles.

Here are five famous buildings, landmarks and houses in Berkshire that have been used to shoot scenes on the big screen.

Some may surprise you.

Basildon Park - Reading

Perhaps a slightly lesser-known estate when compared to the others on this list, the 18th century Basildon Park house also has some impressive credits, including Pride & Prejudice (2005), The Gentlemen, Dorian Gray and Marie Antoinette.

Now owned by the National Trust, the park offers visitors fantastic landscape views and picturesque trails for both Summer and Winter walks.

4. Jalpari of Woodley wins best Indian Restaurant in national awards

A popular Woodley restaurant has won the Best Restaurant category in a national restaurant awards event.

Located at Lodden Vale Shopping Centre, Jalpari of Woodley, offers customers a unique dining experience and mouth-watering authentic Indian cuisine using hand-sourced ingredients.

On a night celebrating the best Pan-Asian restaurants, takeaways and chefs, the Woodley-based restaurant was recognised as the best regional restaurant of the year for the South-Central region.

5. Ofsted: Best and worst secondary schools in Reading

Hundreds of primary school pupils across Reading and surrounding areas are going through the exciting process of deciding where they would like to spend their secondary education years

As today (October 31) is the deadline for students to pick their top choices we have put together a list of the best and the worst schools in Reading, according the Ofsted.

The education watchdogs use a four-level rating system: Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, and Inadequate.
