A biology teacher from Reading has received a top award.

Dr Andy Love from Highdown School in Reading was recently awarded The Royal Society of Biology Teacher of the Year Award and was presented with his award from Professor Sir Ian Boyd from St Andrews University at a reception at The Houses of Parliament on Tuesday, October 17.

Andy has taught at a variety of Reading schools over the last 30 years including Ryeish Green, Waingels College, Theale Green and currently at Highdown School in Emmer Green.

"Curiosity, challenge and care" are Andy's ethos for effective teaching and he has been actively involved with developing and training teachers through Reading University and Brighter Futures for Children.

Headteacher of Highdown, Rachel Cave, said "Our very own Andy Love stole the show at Westminster last night as he received his Biology Teacher of the Year award.

"I was so proud to be with you Andy and what an honour.

"Rightly, Andy held court to the assembled great and good of the Biological science world as professors gained top tips about how to make their lectures more interesting."
