AN inquest into the death of a 19-year-old boy from Tilehurst has been postponed after murder charges have been made.

Sheldon Lewcock was riding an electric bike when he was involved in a collision in Pierces Hill on August 4 last year.

Four people were originally arrested in connection with the case which was at first being treated as a murder investigation.

These people were later released and there were no updates from Thames Valley Police for almost a year.

In March, at Berkshire’s Coroner’s Court, a pre-inquest opening into Sheldon’s death heard that it was ‘extremely likely’ the case will be referred back to the coroner’s court as opposed to the Crown Court for criminal proceedings.

However, last week Ryan Willicombe, from Newbury, was officially charged with murder.

The 18-year-old was originally charged with driving a vehicle involved in a road accident and failing to report that accident as well as one count of driving without third-party insurance.

His case kept being delayed throughout the courts as the Crown Prosecution Service warned he could face a more serious charged of dangerous driving.

At Reading Crown Court on Thursday (September 28), it was confirmed in a preliminary hearing that Willicombe was charged with murder, attempted grievous bodily harm, and causing death by dangerous driving.

A trial date has been set for February 5 and is expected to last two to three weeks.

In the meantime, another hearing was due to take place into Sheldon’s death at the coroner’s court on Thursday (October 5).

A clerk has confirmed on Tuesday (October 3) that this has now been postponed while the criminal proceedings take place.

In March, Sheldon’s family were warned that the matter of his death may only be dealt with in the coroner’s court.

Senior coroner Heidi Connor said at the time: “The police investigation report which is due to come out soon looks at whether the case should be criminal or going to an inquest and it’s extremely likely it’s going to come to me and not the criminal review.

“It’s extremely likely that it will come to me and the police will explain that decision.”

Sheldon’s sister told the court she felts her brother had ‘not got the justice he deserves’.

She said: “It’s just been going on forever, we just want some sort of justice for my brother. It was an attempted murder investigation then a murder investigation then a traffic collision investigation.
