A person has died after being hit by a train near Reading.

At around 8:30am on Thursday, September 21, Great Western Railway halted all trains on the tracks between Reading train station and London Paddington.

A Great Western Railway spokesperson said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Reading and London Paddington, the line is blocked.

"Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes."

British Transport Police have now confirmed a casualty on the tracks has died.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Reading railway station at around 8.30am today (September 21) to reports of a casualty on the track.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
