A SMALL community group in Reading is celebrating it’s 75th anniversary this year.
Reading Windrush Group will be celebrating the anniversary of the arrival of the SS Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks.
The ship carried 492 Caribbean migrants, many of them veterans of the Second World War. The ship and its passengers have a symbolic status as the start of the Windrush Generation.

To celebrate the anniversary, a Caribbean afternoon tea and a ‘Windrush generations showcase’ will take place at the Mapp Community Centre in Mount Pleasant on Saturday, October 7 from 1pm to 3pm. Entry is £3.
In addition, the group is also organising an event for Black History Month.
The event, titled ‘A Conversation with Windrush Elders’ will feature live interviews which are hoped to ‘inspire others’.
It will take place on Saturday, October 28 at St Laurence Church, The Forbury, from 2.30pm and 4.30pm. Entry is free.
