Thousands of people flocked to a showground in Berkshire last weekend to see livestock, enjoy food and check out goods by traders from across the country.

The county show was an annual staple of the Berkshire events calendar, being held every year at the Newbury Showground north of Junction 13 of the M4.

The show was cancelled from 2020-22 due to the coronavirus pandemic and costs of running the event.

But this year, the show returned as guests flocked to the showground to enjoy food, take children to a fun fair, buy wares from producers from across the country and watch animal displays.

Roy Canning, from Newbury, who was spotted at the dog agility course, said: "It's brilliant to be back, it's a nice day out."

He added that he works for Colin's Basic Dog Training, which has been attending the show for 30 years.

While Saturday was warm, Sunday was a wet affair as a thunderstorm battered Berkshire and the rest of the South.

Luckily, there was a reprieve from the rain at around 3.30pm, with traders benefiting from their places in marquee tents.

The event was previously called The Royal County of Berkshire Show, but was rebranded for its return this year to The Newbury Show

Its return was helped by Ramsbury Brewing & Distilling Co Ltd, which sponsored the event.

Ramsbury is known for brewing high-quality gin, vodka and beer.

Businesses from throughout the country attended the event, with cheesemongers from Yorkshire, the icandy fudge stall from Bournemouth and Vlakvarg knife forge from near Swindon present.

Local traders included Ben's Berkshire Bees from Thatcham and Woodland Enterprises shooting and equestrian equipment company from Hungerford.
