Emergency services have responded to a casualty on the train tracks between Reading and Newbury.

This morning (Friday, September 8) Great Western Railway reported a person had been hit by a train.

At 8:20am a spokesperson for Great Western Railway said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Reading and Newbury, all lines are blocked.

"Train services between Reading and Basingstoke may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 11am."

In the most recent update, Great Western Railway has said emergency services have completed their work and all lines have reopened.

They added: "Trains may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 100 minutes until approximately 12pm.

"If you’ve been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to.

"You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat."

British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed that officers were called to Reading West station at 7.34am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A spokesperson for BTP said: "Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
