1. San Sicario Reading closes its doors just months after opening

Reading Chronicle:

AN Italian restaurant near Reading town has closed its doors months after opening.

San Sicario, of Caversham Road, has "permanently closed", according to a notice on Google.

The restaurant received a one-star rating from the Food Standards Agency in March, which means 'major improvement necessary'.

The Italian restaurant blames "lack of documentation on the day of inspection" for the negative rating.

2. Northcroft Lido in Newbury opens with massive transformation

Reading Chronicle:

A popular outdoor lido has received a stunning transformation to include a huge 50-meter swimming pool and areas for all the family.

Located at Northcroft Leisure Centre in Newbury, the new Lido will open by popular demand on Monday, August 21 at 2 pm.

West Berkshire Council has released a sneak peek video on Twitter highlighting some of the lido’s best bits that will be available for members of the public.

3. New Aldi store set to open in Reading

Reading Chronicle:

A new Aldi store is set to open in Reading near a hotel Nandos, and other popular restaurant takeaways.

Aldi looks set to open at the Reading Gateway centre near the M4, which is also home to a Burger King, a Nandos, a Costa Coffee, Beefeater and Premier Inn.

It’s understood the new Aldi will occupy the ‘big box’ Toys R Us store which closed in April 2018.

4. Suspected drug-driver arrested after police chase in Reading

Reading Chronicle:

An 18-year-old suspected drug driver has been arrested following a police chase in Reading.

The incident happened just after 3 pm on Saturday, August 19 when a rider on a white moped failed to stop for police in Cranbury Road.

Thames Valley Police followed the driver to Norcot Street where the man stopped and was chased down Romany Lane.

5. Reading school teacher banned after sending sexual messages

Reading Chronicle:

A READING school teacher has been banned from teaching indefinitely after sharing inappropriate images and messages with former students.

James McGiveron, who was a geography and P.E teacher at Denefield School, has been banned by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) after a professional conduct panel in July.

The virtual panel found that the teacher had sent inappropriate messages and images on social media to former students which were of an ‘explicit sexual nature’ and were ‘sexually motivated’.
