A mysterious urinal, provided for men on the river, has been spotted by eagle-eyed members of the public on Sonning Bridge.

The presence of the strange installation has confused residents who have been questioning its placement on the well-known bridge.

As the Sonning Bridge has a Grade II listed status, any alterations must be agreed upon with Wokingham Borough Council as a planning authority.

According to resident Tom Fenton, questions are already being asked at council level about the possible waste of money in providing urinal facilities on the bridge.

This is however not the first-time random items have appeared on the bridge.

In June 2021, a white telephone was placed on the side of the bridge as an ‘emergency flood line’.

At the time, Wokingham Borough Council tweeted about this saying: "Ring Ring, Hello, it's Wokingham Borough Council - does anyone know who stuck this phone to Sonning Bridge?”

Also, in 2013 a red postbox placed on the side of the bridge left residents bemused as to how it got there.

Some people on social media have suspected that these installations are done by Sonning’s very own artist.
