A mobile phone mast could be put up outside the Loddon Vale Practice doctors surgery under proposals put forward on behalf of network companies EE and 3.

But Woodley town councillors worry that the mast would tower over the GP surgery, make the street look worse, and damage a nearby tree.

If the plans go ahead, a 20 metre mast would be built by the cycle path alongside the practice on Headley Road East.

Telecoms infrastructure company Waldon says a new mast is needed as another one, on the Headley Park industrial estate will be lost due to redevelopment of land set to take place. It says the loss of the mast could disrupt mobile services locally unless it was replaced.

But Woodley Town Council told Waldon that it feared the mast “would have a negative impact to the street scene, especially for local residents.”

It added that it would prefer a mast to be built near higher buildings, noting that the proposed site “is located near to lower level buildings, which would likely cause overbearing on those properties.”

Town councillors sent their concerns to Waldon as part of a consultation the company was running before it submits a planning application to Wokingham Borough Council.
