Police are searching for a man who was "kneed in the face" amid an attack which almost resulted in a stabbing.

On Thursday, July 20, at around 4pm on Fairview Road, Hungerford, two individuals were seen in the area acting aggressively and threatening four people.

One of the offenders was seen brandishing a kitchen knife.

They then went on to punch a man in his twenties in the face causing a minor injury.

A member of the public attempted to intervene, but one of the attackers tried to stab them.

They continued to assault this member of the public, kneeing him in the face.

The member of the public left the scene without giving their details so their identity remains unknown.

A 42-year-old man and an 18-year-old man both from Hungerford have been arrested on suspicion of assault without injury, assault with injury and possession of an offensive weapon, and remain in police custody in connection with the incident.

Thames Valley Police is appealing to find the witness.

Investigating officer, PC Emily Lewis, of the incident and crime response team based at Newbury Station, said: “We are conducting a thorough investigation into this incident and we have made some early arrests.

“We are appealing for the good Samaritan who tried to diffuse this fight to please come forward and contact the force.
