EMERGENCY calls to 999 in the Thames Valley are being answered quicker this year, according to recent data.

Police.uk have released the 999 call data for Thames Valley Police from November 2021 to April 2023.

It shows that the average time it takes to pick up an emergency call so far this year is 10.79 seconds compared to the 12.35 seconds in 2022 and 11.7 seconds at the end of 2021.

A total of 83 per cent of calls to 999 this year have been answered in under 10 seconds, compared to 80.125 per cent in 2022 and 81.35 per cent at the end of 2021.

So far this year, the force has received 119,010 emergency calls between January and April with April being the busiest month so far with 31,893 calls.

However, not all calls are answered in under 10 seconds. So far this year a total of 2,784 calls have taken 60 seconds or longer to answer.

The data shows that 2.3 per cent of all calls are taking a minute or longer to be answered.

However, this is still less than recent years with 3.5 per cent of calls last year taken 60 seconds or longer. This is 12,415 calls out of 347,8111.

It is also less than the end of 2021 at 2.8 per cent which is 1521 calls out of 53,112 across November and December.

The median answer time in seconds across all three years is six seconds with some months reaching a medium of seven seconds.

Thames Valley Police’s busiest month for calls in the last three years was August last year with 32,905 calls made.

The quietest month with the least amount of calls was February last year with 24,568 calls.

Out of all police forces across England and Wales, West Yorkshire Police force has the best record for answering calls the quickest with an average of 6.42 seconds recording in the month of January.

Bedfordshire Police force has the slowest average pick up time so far with 52.05 seconds on average in the month of April.

The most calls made to a police force so far this year was 184,914 calls to the Metropolitan Police Service in March this year.

Dyged-Powys Police have had the least amount of calls in one month with 4,438 calls in February this year.

The average time since November 2021 to April 2023 to pick up a 999 call across all forces is 14.7 seconds.

So far this year, the average time is 12.55 seconds.
