AN ‘outstanding’ independent coffee shop in Reading has been highly praised for creating a community, just months after opening.

Barista & Beyond, Alfred Street, Reading, is an independent café that supports young people with disabilities, through its partnership with Ways Into Work.

Since its official opening in March, the café has seen great success as customers have said it is the “nicest coffee shop” they’ve been to “in a long time”.

Speaking to Ways Into Work, an organisation that supports people with a disability gain and maintain employment, Barista and Beyond has built a small community since its opening.

A spokesperson for Ways Into Work, said: “Since the Barista and Beyond opening, a small community has been built, with loyal customers visiting regularly to enjoy the products and using the space to work and study.

“This has created a positive and welcoming atmosphere, and with the growth of the café Marita is optimistic about the future here.”

The coffee shop has been awarded five stars on Trip Advisor with commenters saying: “The vegetarian breakfast is delicious, and the chai latte is the best I’ve ever had! Would 100% recommend.”

Another reviewer agreed: “We went to Barista & Beyond today for the first time having read an article about its opening and ethos. Great visit - good coffee and cake, friendly service and spacious clean space. Definitely recommend visiting, we’ll be going back again!”

Assistant café manager and chef Marita has found working with those with a disability inspiring. Having previous hospitality experience, Marita appreciates the unique and new experience working to support the interns at Barista and Beyond.

Marita said: “In particular, we have had great feedback on our breakfasts especially the Vegetarian breakfast. Additionally, the Cinnamon pops have been popular, with customers returning specifically for them.”

Barista and Beyond is also available on the Too Good to Go app, to combat food waste.

There is a meeting room which is open to hire out for £20 per hour, with the cost of any food or beverages ordered being deducted from the initial payment.
