A NURSERY is “disappointed” with its Requires Improvement rating as Ofsted say the nursery “does not support SEND students”.

Busy Bees Holme Park, Sonning, received a Requires Improvement rating from its recent Ofsted inspection.

Ofsted said the nursery “does not consistently support children, particularly children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), to develop language skills to communicate their wants and needs.”

The nursery said it is “very disappointed with the overall outcome” and an “Action Plan was immediately put in place to address the points raised by the inspection team.”

The Ofsted report said: "The new manager has clear aims of the provision she wants to offer children with SEND. These plans are in the very early stages."

The nursery received 'Requires Improvement' in three areas of the report: Quality of education, Personal Development and Leadership and management.

It received a Good rating in Behaviour and Attitudes.

During the inspection Ofsted looked at practice in the nursery and spoke to both parents and the staff team.

Operations director of Busy Bees, Amy Davies, said: “We acknowledge that there were areas found during the inspection where we could do better. However, immediately following the visit we took action to address all the points identified by the inspectors.

“The care of children in our nursery is at the heart of all we do, and we apologise to parents and children for letting them down on this occasion.”

The nursery received positive feedback about safeguarding practices as the report said the children "behave well".

Amy Davies added: “Our staff team at Holme Park are keeping parents up to date with all the steps we are taking and the progress that is being made at the nursery.

“We are committed to providing the best possible experience for both children and parents and I am confident there will be a much-improved outcome when Ofsted return.”

A team from Busy Bees National Support Centre has been working with staff at the nursery providing training and support ensuring it meets the standards.
