A POPULAR toy shop brand is returning to Reading town centre this summer, but residents have mixed opinions.

Toys R Us is opening in the WHSmith in Broad Street, as one of the nine new branches opening in partnership with the newsagent.

UK Commercial Director at Toys R Us, Simon Cartey, said WHSmith is the "perfect home" for the popular toy brand to return to the UK high street.

Reading residents have voiced their mixed opinions about the toy store's return. Several people questioned the choice of location.

Vincent Burke said: "Right next door to the Entertainer….. I’m sure it’ll do well??"

Lisa Sawyer added: "Why don't they just use the store at reading gateway junction 11 it's been empty from when it closed a few years back"

Chris Carey agreed saying it is a "bit weird being in town centre".

Defending the new store, eager children-at-heart are excited for the new Toys R Us.

Commenting on the Caversham Gossip Girls facebook page, one resident said: "Okay I'm 22 so am too old to be excited but I'm excited lol"

The new retail partnership will see nine shop-in-shops across the country including Oxford.

Customers will be able to buy much-loved toy brands including Lego, Fisher Price, Barbie and Playmobil.

Simon Cartey added: "With this collaboration, we are not only bringing back the beloved Toys"R"Us experience but also providing convenient access to a wide range of toys and games. Together, we hope to create a magical and joyful shopping destination for families across the country."

An opening date has not yet been announced for the Reading Broad Street branch.
