A walker has slammed the council for not emptying overflowing dog poo bins.

Carine Guénand had just come back from a walk at Sulham Woods when she noticed a dog poo bin overflowing.

"I wish we had more responsible dog owners taking their dog’s poo home instead of placing it next to the bin which is obviously overflowing," Carine said.

"That’s not the way to look after Sulham Woods or setting an example for our younger generation."

The responsibility to empty the bins in and around Sulham Woods falls to West Berkshire Council.

Carine added: "The council should empty the bin and it has been reported.

"Most bins outside of our woods are like this too.

"The issue has been happening for three weeks - there have been no collections.

"We need additional bins where there is considerable footfall and West Berkshire need to collect the bins regularly."

The Chronicle contacted West Berkshire Council who said they placed an "urgent call" to their contactor, who emptyed the bin last Friday.

A spokesperson from West Berkshire Council said: "We empty all dog bins weekly, but they are often fuller sooner than usual during a bank holiday as more people are out and about with their dogs.

"We ask people to report full bins so that we can empty sooner if needed, but also if they find a full bin, not to add to it, but to take their waste either to an empty bin or dispose of it at home.
