LEARNING the piano can lead anywhere, including becoming the future Queen of England, said Kate Middleton’s former piano teacher.

The Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance, playing the piano, at the beginning of the Eurovision final on Saturday (May 13).

Kate Middleton’s former piano teacher and Reading residents, Daniel and Sandra Nicholls, said: “It was amazing to see our former piano student, the Princess of Wales (or Kate Middleton as we knew her) playing at the opening of the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday.

“She looked so relaxed and at home with her performance and we are sure that she will have loved the experience.”

Kate had piano lessons with Daniel between the ages of 11 and 13 along with her sister Pippa, her brother James and their mother Carole.

“All three children were lovely, enthusiastic and bubbly and consequently were very easy to teach. Kate achieved Grade Three piano and (of course) Grade 5 Music Theory”, the teacher said.

The Bucklebury couple added: “Congratulations to Kate for her performance and it is worth remembering that individual piano lessons can lead anywhere; to self-fulfilment, to GCSE and A-level, to a university degree and even to becoming Princess of Wales and then Queen of England!”

The music teachers praise the benefits of learning to play an instrument as it can relieve stress and “give you a skill and passion for life”.
