A DESSERTS company that specialises in illusion desserts is selling its inventive creations in Reading this weekend.
Skull Duggery Desserts will be selling its dessert illusions at the Blue Collar Corner until Sunday, May 21.
Skull Duggery’s sweet creations are designed to look like savoury foods, for example a chocolate cake that looks like chicken curry.
When we heard that Blue Collar Corner would be hosting Skull Duggery Desserts, we knew we had to see the illusions for ourselves.
Does it taste as good as it looks?
The food stall is selling various British classics in dessert form.
The 'Sunday Roast' consists of pancakes that look like roast beef, white chocolate truffle 'roast potatoes', oreo cheesecake 'mash' and chocolate 'gravy'.
Another option is the 'Choc'in Tikka' which is chocolate cake served with white and milk chocolate ganache, kinder hazelnut sauce, oreos and coconut 'rice'.
For this review, we went for the 'Chish 'n' Fips' and 'Jacket Spud'.

First up we tried the sweet treat that resembles fish and chips. Served in a cardboard fish and chips box with wooden fork, it felt very much like the real thing.
The 'fish' is a biscoff cheesecake served with shortbread chips, berry ketchup and apple and grape mushy peas.
As biscoff cheesecake would be one of my death-row dessert options, I had to try this illusion dessert.
The cheesecake was creamy and delicious, covered in a crispy biscoff crumb - I couldn't fault it!
The shortbread chips were also delicious and great to dip in the berry sauce. Some of the 'chips' were going slightly soft, rather than being a crumbly biscuit, due to being in a box for a while. I don't think you would be able to put in the fridge and save for later, unless you don't mind soft biscuits.
The taste of the apple and grape mushy peas was sour and refreshing but personally I didn't like the jelly-like texture. This is personal preference, though.
The biscoff cheesecake certainly made up for the 'peas' and I would recommend if you are also a cheesecake fan.
There is also a vegan option for this dessert so everyone can give it a go.

Next we tried the 'Jacket Spud' which definitely looked more realistic than the fish and chips.
Packed in the tin foil and polystyrene takeaway tub, it looked like I'd just been to the local deli. It is funny how it plays tricks on your mind - I know I'm eating cake but my mind still thinks it should be eating baked beans.
This illusion is a toffee cake encased in chocolate with white chocolate cheese and salted toffee peanut beans.
The staff member at Skull Duggery was on hand to give us a run down of allergen advice which is important when nuts are hiding as beans!
The toffee cake was a fluffy sponge covered in chocolate that looked just like a jacket potato. Being wrapped in tin foil, the cake was easy to transport home to save for later without being spoiled.
Out of everything we tried, the toffee peanuts probably looked the most like real thing which was quite impressive.
I preferred the taste of the cheesecake to the toffee cake, but that is just down to personal preference.
All desserts are between £7 and £8 which I think is worth it for the portion size, taste and fun.
Owner of the Blue Collar Group, Glen Dinning, said: “What’s really exciting is that we’re bringing the best street food traders in the Country to Blue Collar Corner.
“Skull Duggery are so inventive & clever with their desserts - they look amazing and taste fantastic.”
Fat Tabby’s roast dinner wraps, Georgian Feast and Mainstreet Tacos will be trading alongside Skull Duggery Desserts this weekend.
Blue Collar Corner will be open from 5pm to 12.30am on Friday, 11am to 12.30am on Saturday and 11am to 8pm on Sunday. Food is served until 9.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
I'd love to hear what you think of the sweet illusions.
