RICKY Gervais fans were gutted after the comedian snubs home town in 2023 tour, others blamed the "embarrassing" town.

The Reading-born comedian has been accused of “forgetting his roots” as his Armageddon tour misses the town.

One fan tweeted: "Dude seriously? High Wycombe, Guildford, Woking, Amazingstoke [Basingstoke] are all on your tour but not Reading???! I thought Reading made you what you are?"

Others were quick to blame the town instead saying they were “not surprised”.

Mark Forbes said: “Of course he would. Council likes to think of us as a city and the best we can offer is The Hexagon.”

Tim Widdows agreed, saying that The Hexagon is “an embarrassment”.

Another Reading Chronicle reader called “the whole town an embarrassment!”

Defending Gervais, Avsie Paul said there was “no deliberate snub” but that there is no where in Reading to “accommodate how many would want to come”.

His tour will be taking him to venues across the UK, Europe, North America and Canada.

We don't think that Reading is embarrassing and The Sunday Times agrees after voting Reading one of the best places to live.

The Sunday Times released its 'Best Places to Live 2023' list and Reading made the cut, for the second year running.

Reading has many great qualities as it has many culturally diverse communities, as well as a huge diversity of offerings for shops, independents, local attractions and event spaces.

The town centre continues to grow with more leisure spaces opening up.

A well deserved ranking in the Sunday Times best places to live - we say!
