CCTV footage of a man’s last moments after he was struck with a horseshoe in Reading Train Station has been shown to a jury.

Thomas Parker died on platform eight just before midnight on July 30 last year and Kirkpatrick Virgo, of Whitby Road, Slough, is currently on trial at Reading Crown Court for murder.

Virgo has admitted manslaughter and possession of an offensive weapon but the 42-year-old denies murder.

The court heard that the 24-year-old golf greenkeeper was on an Elizabeth line train with his brother Craig Parker, 27, when the pair got into an argument with Virgo and two of his friends over music being played from a speaker.

An off-duty police officer told the court he instructed the two groups to separate but CCTV footage showed Virgo moving back up the carriage to where the argument had happened as the train arrived in Reading. He was then filmed pulling out a heavy metal horseshoe from his rucksack.

The court was shown footage of Virgo striking Mr Parker after getting off the train after having a short exchange with him on the platform.

Mr Parker’s brother could be seen being sick nearby the incident before chasing after Virgo.
