A pottery painting studio situated in Caversham has closed its doors for the last time after serving the community for six years.

Art Jam Studios on Prospect Street said its last farewell to the public on Saturday, March 18.

In a heartfelt message on the Art Jam website, owner and local artist Sherrie Tuhy said: "It is with a very heavy heart and great sadness that I have to announce that Art Jam Studio will be closing.

"I want to thank each and every one of you that have supported Art Jam Studio over the past six years.

"For all of you that have discovered your inner artist while painting pottery or canvases, for the many birthday parties and Hen parties, for those that attended the many workshops, for all that attended the after-school clubs, the home school class, the painting and drawing group, the creative socials, and to my loyal staff.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

"It has been an absolute privilege and honour to serve the Caversham community and beyond."

Sherrie originally planned to find a new owner for the studio, but after failing to reach an agreement with a new buyer the decision was made to close for good.

She now plans to retire, however, it is evident the local community and customers alike will miss Sherrie and the art studio.

Steffi Reiker said: "My kids made so many great memories at your studio. Thank you for every single one."

Sherrie has been praised for being a "lifeline" during lockdown, with online classes bringing art to homes in the area.

Rose Mary added: "So sad to see you go. Will never forget your welcoming attitude and the fantastic space you created to let anyone find their inner artist. Good luck with all and a wonderful retirement."

Sarah Hatcher said: "Been so lucky to have Art Jam in Caversham over the past 6 years.

"I’ve loved the different workshops you have hosted and my children have adored having their parties in the workshop. So much fun and inspiration.

"Thank you so much for all the time and energy you invested - we will really miss you."

Dozens of people have sent their best wishes to Sherrie as she begins her retirement.

The studio is currently still open to those who need to collect pottery which was painted before the closing date, with the last date for collections being March 24.
