Mexican takeaway gearing up to open in Reading town centre

Mexican fast food chain Zambrero is getting ready to open at 31 Queen Victoria Street, which used to be occupied by the William Hill betting shop between Itsu and Kokoro.

The chain, which started in Australia, is known for serving up burritos, nachos, quesadillas, tacos and desserts to diners.

Preparation work has begun in Reading, with the old William Hill sign being removed and hoardings declaring that Zambrero will be ‘coming soon’ and that the takeaway is looking for team members.

Ahead of opening, the company has applied to sell alcohol on and off premises from 11am to 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 8.30pm on Sundays.

It has also applied to sell alcohol during non standard hours on New Years Eve.

Specifically, Zambrero wants to sell alcohol from the end of permitted hours on  New Year’s Eve to the start of permitted hours on New  Year’s Day, presumably to feed hungry revellers during celebrations.

The application has been submitted to Reading Borough Council.
