A cloud of smoke was spotted by eagle eyed members of the public coming from the Gillette building last weekend (12/3).

Initial thoughts were that the smoke was emitting from a fire in the area with one reader saying, ‘there’s no smoke without fire’.

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed following the sighting that this was an isolated incident that did not require the need for the fire service or any intervention.

A spokesman from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue said: “We discovered that this fire was an instance of controlled burning and that we did not attend the incident.”

One reader said that the smoke had been emitting from the building at other times throughout the week.
