New and more regular events could be coming to the town’s fantastic Abbey Quarter.

It comes as a result of a licensing application that has been submitted for the area so that outdoors performances and alcohol sales can take place.

It’s just one of several licensing applications that have been submitted in Reading recently.

Elsewhere, business owners have applied to sell alcohol from premises in Caversham and Katesgrove.

Exciting events at Reading Abbey Quarter

More regular events could be coming to the Abbey Quarter in the town centre, which covers the ruins of the Abbey, Chestnut Walk and the Kennet riverside.

An application has been submitted to host outdoor entertainment and sell alcohol there from 9am to 10.30pm over the weekend from Friday to Sunday.

The Abbey Quarter is no stranger to events, with the Water Festival being held each June, as well as concerts and theatre productions being held in the Abbey Ruins.

A company called T&M Leisure Reading Limited has submitted the application, with the deadline for representations being Monday, March 27.

Licence for new grocery in Caversham

A company called SS Groceries is set to occupy 28 Prospect Street in Caversham, located on its junction with Chester Street.

Google Map images show the building used to be occupied as an office for Jennings of Caversham, which announced its closure in October 2020.

Latest imagery from November 2022 appears to show  28 Prospect Street undergoing work.

SS Groceries has applied for sale of alcohol on and off the premises from 8am to 11pm each day.

The deadline for representations is Tuesday, March 21.

Licence for store in Katesgrove

A company called G Mart has applied to sell alcohol from 7am to 11pm each day at 7 Whitley Street.

It’s understood the application relates to the Whitley Store, near where Whitley Street meets Mount Pleasant.

The busy area already has a number of restaurants, takeaways and off licences.

The deadline for representations is Sunday, March 26.

A drinks business wants so conduct deliveries from the Pink Hippo Self

Storage facility in Bridgewater Close, West Reading.

The company, called Rougevin has applied to conduct sales off the premises at all times from Monday to Sunday.

It is not certain what Rougevin will sell as no website has appeared yet, but ‘vin rouge’ is French for red wine.

The deadline for representations is Wednesday, March 29.
