AFTER an hour and 48 minutes, a jury found an 18-year-old guilty of assaulting a teenage girl by ‘smashing her’ in the face.

Kayden Williams, of Don Close in Tilehurst, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a three-day trial at Reading Crown Court.

The teen attacked two teenage girls, aged 15 and 16, on August 4, 2022 in Coronation Square.

He was also accused of using a knuckle duster but the jury found him not guilty having an offensive weapon.

Williams had previously pleaded guilty to one count of causing grievous bodily harm and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. 

A sentencing date of March 24 has been agreed by Judge Kirsty Real to give time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Williams will remain in custody during this time.

During the trial, the prosecution told the court that the case was a ‘linked incident’ to a crash that happened on Pierces Hill, Tilehurst. Sheldon Lewcock, 19, was involved in a fatal crash with a van on August 4 and passed away in hospital on August 9.

A 17-year-old boy was subsequently charged with attempted murder, however Thames Valley Police dropped the murder investigation and released the 17-year-old without charge.

Barrister Jon Sank, who appeared in Williams’s hearing, said the case was now being investigated by the Joint Operations Roads Policing Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
