A suspected drug-driver has been arrested after failing a road-side drug test whilst travelling with his three month old infant.

Thames Valley Police stopped the driver in the Tilehurst area of Reading on Saturday, February 18 when it was shown to have no insurance.

Officers posted on social media that upon discovering that the insurance policy he produced for the Vauxhall Insignia was falsified, the driver stated that he was a regular cannabis user

Thames Valley Police posted on their social media: “The driver produced a screen shot on their phone of a weeks “temporary insurance”. However, alarm bells rang immediately when they couldn’t show me an email or log into the website as the screen shot was in my opinion, very suspect.

“On checking the policy further it showed that it began just under a week ago in February 2023, however the end date was in a couple of days time in… 2022! The document had clearly been photoshopped from a previous policy, in a poor attempt to make it appear genuine.

“Unsurprisingly the driver was already on 6 points for a previous #NoInsurance offence. The driver also stated that they were a frequent cannabis smoker A quick drug wipe of them showed as positive for cannabis and they were duly arrested for Drug Driving and no insurance.

“Their car was seized and we also ensured that mother and baby got home safely. A specimen of blood was taken and the driver now awaits the results of the analysis.”

The man is now facing a possible 12 months driving ban as well as losing their car if they don’t take out ‘legitimate’ insurance policy and pay the recovery fees.
