Birmingham boss John Eustace believes Reading are a side fighting for promotion this season as the halfway period approaches.

Sat 14th in the Championship, Blues are just three points behind the Royals, but could leapfrog them with a win due to their superior goal difference.

Reading, sat in eighth, are just two points off the top six and could go into the play-offs with a win.

Speaking to the media ahead of Friday's clash at St Andrew's, the former Watford and Coventry defender was full of praise for Paul Ince and his side.

"It is going to be a really tough challenge," the 43-year-old started. "They’ve got a fantastic squad of experienced players there. Players that have been there and done it at this level. Their manager is a top manager and was a top player in his time as well, and he’s got a good set of staff with him as well.

"We know how difficult the game will be, Reading are above us in the league and are fighting for promotion so it is going to be a really tough game."

Both sides are unbeaten since the World Cup return, Reading beating Coventry City 1-0 and Birmingham drawing 0-0 with Blackpool.

The match, kicking off at 8pm, is being broadcast live on Sky Sports.
