Reading boss Paul Ince has called on more Royals to travel to away matches, looking to emulate sides such as Sunderland.

The newly promoted Black Cats have an average of over 2,300 away fans at matches on the road, with only Burnley having more this campaign.

In comparison, an average of 922 follow Reading- with only Millwall, Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United having less so far.

This is despite sell-out crowds taken to Watford and Luton Town in recent weeks.

Full of praise for those who do travel, Ince admitted he would like to see the following grow.

"Absolutely brilliant. That’s so important. We’ve had so many games, away at Luton and away at Watford, I know it’s close to home but you’ve still got to get there, still got to pay the money. To have that support, it’s a long way five hours for these guys, I’m just pleased we’ve got to send them back on the coaches, trains or cars with a victory.

"It’d be nice if we could get some more support. I watched Birmingham-Sunderland last night and Sunderland have got 2,000 fans, and that’s something that we, as a club, all of us, have to get that type of attendance in two, three years time."

Reading Chronicle:

Over 300 travelled to Hull last week to witness a 2-1 win over the Tigers, a first win on Humberside for 28 years, and Ince was happy to send them home with a smile.

"Just to have our fans there, sometimes it’s quite nice just to have our little fans in the corner, singing and shouting and coming down to see the boys at the end, it’s great. My job is to make these fans happy. You can’t do it all the time, you’re not going to do it all the time. Work will be a lot happier for them now than if we had of got beat today."
