Reading manager Paul Ince has challenged his strikers to nail down a position up front.

In the 2-1 win over Hull City, Ince named his ninth different striking partnership, with Shane Long and Yakou Meite starting.

Midfielder Tom Ince and Lucas Joao are joint top scorers with four apiece, Yakou Meite has three, Andy Carroll two and Long one.

Speaking after the Tigers win, with Meite hitting his 41st Championship goal, Ince put down a marker to his strikers.

Reading Chronicle:

"Eventually, as a striker you want to say you’re the main man," he said. "We’ve got four very good strikers, but someone has to grab that. That’s up to them. They’re different strikers in different ways. I’m pleased they came on and made an impact. Sometimes you make a sub and they struggled to get up to speed. It’s for them to fight. I always played a 4231, that’s my preferred formation, so it will be different personnel. It’s nice to have a choice."

The win on Humberside was the first win in Hull for 28 years and first away win this season since September, but Ince was content with the chosen pair.

"Today worked out well. Shane hasn’t played in about seven weeks, but we knew with how Hull want to play we needed to press from the front. That’s when you need Yakou or Shane- that’s not AC or Joao’s game. They were very good at that and gave us the energy at the front. It’s going to be horses for courses. Yak got us another goal today."
